Listening is the most “trainable” section. With the right strategy you can gain a full band in a few weeks.
Use the Preparation Time
Read the questions before each section and underline keywords. Predict what kind of answer fits each gap — a number, a name, a date.
Follow the Signposts
Phrases like “however”, “but actually”, and “let me correct that” signal that the answer is changing. Listen for them.
Avoid Classic Traps
- Spelling errors on transferred answers
- Plurals you did not hear
- Word-limit violations (e.g. writing 3 words when 2 are allowed)
The recording is played only once — train your concentration as much as your English.
Master Map and Diagram Tasks
These reward spatial language. Drill directions, prepositions and ordinal sequencing until they are automatic.
| Band | Level | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | Expert | Full operational command of English |
| 7 | Good | Operational command, occasional inaccuracies |
| 6 | Competent | Generally effective command despite some errors |
| 5 | Modest | Partial command; copes with overall meaning |
